I believe it is possible that 59-year-old Isabel Antonieta Carlos, of Alhambra, CA, is a scammer. Her deceased husband’s name was Luis Aguirre Carlos, his date of birth was June 3, 1932, and his date of death was April 13, 2018. Isabel has NOT reported his death to the assessors in California where she and Luis owned multiple rental properties.
Background that leads to my suspicion:
My 95-year-old widowed father met Isabel Antonieta (“Toni”) Carlos through Match.com. He said she called herself "Toni" on her profile. She also uses the names Isabel de Carlos, Isabel Cruz, Isabel Contreras Cruz and Isabel Contreras-Cruz. This woman is 59 years old and lives 365 miles from my father, who lives in the affluent San Francisco, CA, suburb of Palo Alto. She initiated contact with him through the Match.com website and quickly moved their conversation offsite. She convinced him that he loves her and spoke of him paying all the bills if their relationship were to continue, as she claimed was customary in her culture. (She is originally from Mexico.) In less than ten days, she was discussing staying with him at his house for two weeks without his caregiver present despite the fact the two had never even met in person. She also discussed marriage with him, and wanted assurances she could stay in his house when he passed away. She wouldn’t agree to move in until they were legally married. This woman has previously married (at least) one other elderly man (Luis Aguirre Carlos) and managed to inherit his house and more than half a dozen rental units when he died. His closest living relative, his nephew, ended up with nothing. When this woman realized I was looking into her background, and caught her in a bald-faced lie, she broke things off with my father, placing the “blame” on me. She then told him that in the future, he should get married before telling his children about the new woman. I believe this was a last-ditch effort to get him to marry her right away, with no more questions asked. Elderly men need to be protected from this woman, whose clear motivation is money and other resources, not love.
